Community Engagement
Here on our Bluff, community engagement unites us. Each year, about 8,000 students, faculty and staff participate, making service to others an important part of our campus culture. In fact, for the sixth consecutive year, Duquesne has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of the University's commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
Our Spirit of Service
When you join your fellow Duquesne students and co-workers in giving back, you're certain to reap significant rewards in personal growth. Everyone finds something that fits their personal interests by working with:
- Charities, social agencies and human services
- Public safety, education and wellness programs
- Neighborhood beautification efforts
- Small business development
Community Collaboration with Students and Faculty
Students, faculty, and community leaders work together on various academic projects through community-engaged teaching and research.
- Community-engaged teaching is a teaching method used throughout Duquesne to develop meaningful community projects that reflect the course learning objectives.
- Community-engaged research puts the research and inquiry skills of faculty and students at the service of our region's concerns and issues.
- The Center for Community-Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR) is home to this work at Duquesne. It supports knowledge creation, civic development and community transformation.
