Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Duquesne chapter of Society of St. Vincent de Paul is part of an organization that spans across the world to bring hope and compassion to those with all types of need.

History and Mission

Begun in 1833 by young college students in Paris, France, the Society continues to fulfill the same goal of its founding members: to demonstrate the Christian way of life through acts of love and service.

Working with the Homeless

Our chapter's main ministry is serving the homeless of downtown Pittsburgh. We gather every Sunday night at 7:30pm in Laval House, to package hot meals and prepare bags of clean clothes, toiletries, and water to bring on our walk around Downtown Pittsburgh. We meet individuals who are homeless or are in need in some way and provide them meals and whatever they need of what we are carrying. We visit some of our long-time friends while also meeting new ones along our route. Sometimes they share stories or their concerns with us, and we listen and try to help as best we can. By ministering to their spiritual and personal needs and desires, we show solidarity with them and affirm their dignity as human persons.
The Duquesne chapter is open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have a desire to serve the poor and vulnerable. We welcome you to join us at 7:30pm on Sunday nights at Laval House, for one of our weekly meetings. To sign up for a particular Sunday, follow the link below:
